Foto Finish: Gardening

Today is the day for Foto Finish!! Today’s optional theme is definitely one that I’m fond of.  It’s gardening!!  This is also the last one until July as Barbara is putting this meme on hiatus while she’s away and enjoying summer.

I chose some buds of the flowers that are taking over my flower bed right now.  These are my favorite ones because of the colors.  I have white, pink, magenta, yellow, and a purple.  However, this one is a peach color with a pale yellow center.  I just love them!!

Foto Finish: Pets

It’s once again time for Foto Finish!!  Today’s optional theme is definitely one that I can work with.  Barbara has suggested “pets” for our optional theme today.

I’ve once again chosen hubby’s turtle.  I guess he’s just the most photogenic of the pets!!  This time, the turtle is eating his dinner.  What’s on the menu??  A banana!!

Foto Finish: Animals

It’s once again time for Foto Finish!!  I’m happy that today’s theme is one that I can work with.  Always very glad that Barbara has the “optional” theme for us to work with because I always struggle to find the right photos so share.

Today’s photo is my hubby’s turtle.  This was taken last Spring before the grass turned green.  That’s not a problem this year with all the rain we’ve had!!  Anyway, when we’re outside, hubby generally brings the turtle out to stretch his legs and walk around our yard.

Foto Finish: Flowers

YAY!!  I get to participate in Foto Finish again today!!  I was away last weekend and unable to join in the fun.  I’m back though and just in time for this “optional theme”.

This photo was taken just before we “left” for Spring Break last week.  The dogwood tree in front of our house was in bloom.  It didn’t have nearly the flowers that it usually does, but I attribute that to our hot, dry summer last year.  In addition, we had a very warm winter too.

Foto Finish: Growing

I’m so excited because I’m actually joining in Foto Finish today!!  It’s been forever since I’ve been able to do this.  I’m still not feeling great, but I’m happy for a chance to show off a photo that I’ve taken!!

Today’s optional theme is “growing”.  I figured this was a great one for me to jump on.  It could be interpreted so many ways.  I’m going with plants though….flowers to be specific!!  This is one that I took last year from my flower garden.  It’s one of my favorites with the dark background and the color of the flowers.

Foto Finish: Look Up

For today’s Foto Finish, the theme is “look up”.  I didn’t want to do the typical birds or trees….or even a flag.  That would just be too predictable.  Then I remembered these birds that were circling while we were on the Wildlife Refuge during the huge wildfire there.  They were very eery to say the least!!

I decided to use one of those images for my Foto Finish.  Unfortunately, the quality is very low on this one. Here’s my subject for “look up”….

For an update on the wildfire, they estimate that over 20,000 acres burned.  There’s still no cause for the fire, except for extreme heat with no rain, dry, and windy.  The only animal loss was 1 old elf found dead.  It seems that all the other animals remained safe.  With recent sprinkles and even a little rain in the area, there’s already tiny green sprouts of grass coming up through the burned land.  Life does go on!!

Foto Finish: Buffalo

The subject of today’s Foto Finish is “things with 4 legs”.  I’m always excited when I can share photos of our 4-legged family.  Yes, my plan was to go with the dogs or even the turtle.  But today, I’m going a different direction.

Because of the wildfire that’s burning at the Wildlife Refuge, I wanted to share the buffalo that I shot while we were out there the other day.  This guy was moving away from the flames and to the almost dry pond.  I have a true fascination with the buffalo and longhorns.  I’d love to go out there more than we do.  I was so sad watching him move and seeing all that land burn.  All the water is almost dry because we’ve gone so long without rain and it’s been unseasonably HOT!!

Foto Finish: Things That Are Hot

Today, the theme for Foto Finish is “things that are hot”.  This instantly lead me to think of this hot OK sun that we’ve had this summer.  We’re over 40+ days now of 100+ degree days.  Then, I realized that was just too easy!!

I’ve decided to go with a photo of my pico de gallo.  I made my own homemade for the first time a few weeks ago.  I’d always bought it and was happy with that.  I decided it was time to branch out on my own!!  It turned out so delicious.  I’m determined to keep some in the refrigerator at all times because it makes such a tasty addition to so many dishes.

So why have I gone with this as my “things that are hot”??  Well, if you’ve ever tasted pico, you know that it can be mighty hot.  If you leave the seeds in the jalapenos, it can definitely set your mouth on fire!!

Things That Fly

Today, I have a 2-fer!!  I’m participating in Foto Finish and Camera Critters.  The theme for this week’s Foto Finish is “things that fly”.

I absolutely love feeding the birds.  We don’t get a large variety in our backyard, mostly 2 varieties of sparrows.  However, we have had a Cardinal couple that has visited for months now and I love them!!  We also get Pigeons and Morning Doves.  A couple weeks ago, we were visited by a Bluejay and I’ve already shared a photo of him.

Much to my happiness, while my parents were visiting us last weekend, a Hawk started to appear.  It seems to be making a home nearby.  In the photo that I chose, you can see some straw or twigs in its mouth.  I haven’t seen it at all this week, but I keep watching.  I have to believe that it’ll be back!!

Foto Finish: Something Blue

Today’s Foto Finish theme is “something blue”.

This presented a bit of a challenge for me!!  Although it’s my favorite color, I don’t take photos of many blue things.  Then it dawned on me…..the Bluejay.  This little guy came to our feeder in mid-May.  It didn’t take him long to try to take things over.  As pretty as he was and just as my Daddy had warned me, he started chasing the other birds away.  He was outnumbered though and soon went about his way.  I got a couple shots of him, but this is by far the best one.  Unfortunately, it has 2 tall strands of grass right in front of him!!  Oh well, such is the struggles of a hobby photographer.
