Armor of God

Tonight’s lesson was all about bringing the Armor of God to my students.  I wanted to show them in a fun way that there are things that they possess to protect them from evil.

I created a couple printable to use with my class, then I made a couple extra things in hopes that others would be able to us them.  First, there’s a set of memory match cards.  The armor is matched to its virtue.  There are also two worksheets.  One of them is “Label the Armor of God” and the other is “Armor of God Cut & Paste” where the armor is cut and glued next to the virtue.

Finally, it’s the big one!!  I called it “Roll the Armor of God”, but it has so many other uses.  It can be used to roll a die and place the Armor of God on the soldier.  This can also be used for a felt story set, which is basically how I used it with my kiddos.  I read the Bible verse to them and they dressed their doll in the armor as I read the verse.  It could also be used as a simple paper craft to do with the kids.  There’s 2 versions of this all in one download!!  There is a boy and girl soldier doll, as well as a black & white version or color version.  Then for the “Roll the Armor of God”, there’s just the virtue listed or the piece of armor with the virtue to use depending on the age of your kids.

On a side note, these activities are based on the Catholic version (NAS) of the Bible.  The only part that I didn’t use was the wording for “having girded your loins in truth”.  I chose to use “belt” instead as it’s easier for my little ones to understand.  I did choose to use “shod your feet”, as they grasped that it was shoes/boots and I didn’t want to use “sandals” as many do and hubby drew me great armor boots.

Advent Wreath – A Paper Craft

This week, I did an Advent Wreath paper craft with my class.  We had so much fun doing this.  It was quite a bit of work for them to do, but they loved being busy and seeing their final product.  They just love to take their projects home!!

This is a 4 candle wreath.  I know some households and churches place a white candle in the middle, but we don’t teach it that way.  You could print out an extra candle if it’s your choice to teach it that way in your class or home.

There are several ways to decorate this craft.  Some suggestions are to use buttons or fake holly berries or add red glitter to the paper holly berries.  Use fake holly leaves on the wreath instead of the paper ones or add glitter to the veins in the paper holly leaves.  Candles could be colored with crayon, markers, or wrapped in tissue paper.  The flames could be covered in glitter and placed on the candle the week that the candle is lit.  There are also 4 labels to place on the candles for what each one stands for.  There are several possibilities for this paper craft!!

Books of the Bible – A Craft Project

We didn’t have class this week for the Thanksgiving holiday, so last week in class, we did a lesson on Thanksgiving.  The prior week to that, we did our Bible lesson.  This is always a great lesson with my kids, although they’re too young to remember every book of the Bible.

This year I wanted to do a craft project with them, as I usually don’t have one for this topic.  I decided to make my own.  It turned out so well, that I asked my wonderful talented hubby to do a couple drawings for me so that I can share this project with you all!!

Here’s a sample of how this craft could be completed (click to enlarge)….

For this project, the cross will be decorated.  We used tissue paper and it gave each of them a different effect.  Next, they simply colored the Bible.  For this one, they glittered the bookmark ribbon.  The Bible is then placed over the cross for final assembly.  It’s just a very simple paper craft for my little ones.

**NOTE**  This is for the Catholic version of the Bible!!

A Lesson of Thanksgiving

This week, our lesson is on Thanksgiving.  Before I get to that, I just wanted to let you know that I do have a blog post about last week’s lesson.  It was on the Bible and I created a craft for it using images that I’d found, but I’ve been waiting for hubby to draw me some so that I could share it.  He’s now completed those drawings for me, so hopefully by this weekend I’ll be able to get it posted….and it will still be dated for last week since that’s when I did it and saved my draft post.

Now, onto this week’s lesson!!  I simply love doing the Thanksgiving lesson.  I teach very little, except to tell them that they should be thankful and why.  I then open the class up to telling me things that they’re thankful for and why.  Sometimes, it turns into a “competition”, but in a good way.  They start to realize all that they have at such a young age and when someone says something, they almost have to match it.  The reason why I like that part of it because they are so young and sometimes don’t realize what they do have for what they’ve been blessed with.  It turns out to be very enlightening!!

Noah’s Ark Chore Chart

Every year, my kids like helping out with duties in our religious education classroom.  I usually just simply rotate them between the couple of chores that they can do for me.  I don’t have many, but they love doing them!!  This year, I decided that instead of me just trying to keep track on paper, I’d create a chore chart.

There’s actually 2 chore charts in this set.  The first is the one that I used that has actual chores on it.  The duties include pass out papers, collect papers, bathroom monitors (boy and girl), box collector (our supply boxes), and line leader.  The second chart is blank.  The chores can actually be typed in and then printed, or it can be printed as is and the duties can be written in.

What I plan to do with mine is now that it’s printed and laminated, I’ll use a Vis-a-Vis marker to write their names on the animal with the chore.  A dry erase marker could be used as well, but I prefer the Vis-a-Vis on laminate and it’s easy to remove to change names.  Also, if you don’t want to write on the animals, the names could be written below the chore.

Sequence & Pray – Our Father

Thanks to a blogger, Holly, using my Sequence & Pray – Hail Mary cards and mat set, they’ve become very popular.  That’s also sparked people to ask for a set for Our Father.  So thanks, Three Sided Wheel , I appreciate your interest in my Hail Mary set and that you blogged about it.

This is a set for Sequence & Pray – Our Father.  The cards can be used for concentration/memory (if 2 sets of cards are printed) or they can be sequenced on the mat with the words to the prayer on each card.  They also could be used to just recite the prayer or a number of other things.  These all must be printed on legal size paper!!  That is, 8 1/2″ by 14″ size paper.

Oh Holy Night Number Strip Puzzles

It’s time for Nativity A Day and the 18th posting of it!!  Yes, that means that there’s only 2 more to go and I’ve still missed 3 of them.  I think I did anyways.  I’ll have to go back and count again because one day I missed, but the next day I did a double.  If I only counted that as 1, then it should actually be 2 and I’ll have only missed 2.  Time to count!!  HAHA

On with the Nativity A Day for today though.  I have a pretty big variety of number strip puzzles.  Some are horizontal and some are vertical.  There’s one for counting 0-12 and one for 1-10.  There’s also 2 for skip counting by 5 and 10 and one each of skip counting by 2 and 3.  I love all the images that I used and I used a variety of fonts.  We all know about my font addiction!!  HAHA

Nativity, What Do You See? Mini-Book

Today is the 16th posting of Nativity A Day and after a couple busy days this weekend of not being able to post it, I’m back on track!!  I’m really proud of this one and so happy with how it turned out.

Today’s Nativity A Day is a mini-book called Nativity, What Do You See? and it’s based on the Brown Bear, Brown Bear concept.  I recommend printing the cover on card stock and the pages on paper.  The pages of can be printed front and back to save on paper, or printed off separately by the sheet.  The cover is slightly larger than the pages, so they should tuck in nicely and then be stapled close to the fold to hold them in.

NOTE:  I just printed the book out and I should have been more specific in the directions.  The back of each page should be printed upside down so that when it’s lifted to be read, it’s facing down and goes into the next page.  I know this doesn’t make much sense because I’m not good at describing, but take my word!!  So, if you print all the top pages, then flip them over upside down and print the backs.  Or, if your printer is like mine and does front/back printing, have it flip in the short edge instead of the long edge.  Hope this helps!!

UPDATE:  Being a mom of 1, I know that printing the other book is quite a bit of extra paper and ink.  So, I created another book, just for ONE!!  It’s identical to the other book, but just one book prints out per page, instead of two.  Be sure to read above about printing front and back so that when the pages are turned up, they can read without having flip the book over.  I have printed this out and it works great!!  You can find the new Nativity, What Do You See? mini-book for one here.

Nativity Pre-Writing Practice

Today is the 15th post in Nativity A Day and it’s for little ones.

Today’s Nativity A Day is pre-writing practice sheets.  There’s 4 pages for different stages.  First off is strait lines and they get thinner with smaller dashes as you go down the page.  Next is some strait lines with a curve and square edge tracing.  The next page is different sizes of curves and the last page is different sizes of square edges.

Nativity Bean Bag Toss

Today is the 12th post in Nativity A Day.  Today’s idea is not my own, but I made it mine….in my way and I hope that you and the kids enjoy it.

Today’s Nativity A Day is Nativity Bean Bag Toss.  One or more players can play by tossing a bean bag at the letters from the nativity in the order that they’re called out.  You can play where it’s required that the letters are played in the correct order to spell “nativity”.  It could be played in the same manner using darts.

Don’t worry that baby Jesus is having bean bags or darts thrown at him!!  I put the letter in the large open door of the stable and then the adorable nativity characters are visible in the open window.  Each letter mat has a different nativity character.
