Skywatch: Clouds Rolling In

So far this week, we’ve had some really hot weather and a chance of bad weather every evening.  I’m happy to say that it’s all passed us by, although we could really use some rain.  Every evening around dinner time, the clouds have been rolling in.  The ones that followed this cloud bank rolling in were full of lightening, but passed right over us.  You can tell by the tops of the trees, the wind really came up too!!

World Bird Wednesday: Blackbird

This will be my second entry for World Bird Wednesday.  I got a brand new lens, so I was snapping photos of EVERY bird that came to our feeders.  I typically don’t let any type of blackbird (crow, cowbird, etc.) stay because they’ll eat us out of house and home.  They also force other birds away from the feeders.

I made an exception for this one!!  It was alone and I just loved the way the sun was hitting it.  You can see how very jet black he is and then the “blue” of his head.  It was a lovely specimen for my new lens!!

Macro Monday: Turtle Yawn

This shot for Macro Monday and I Heart Macro is brand new!!   Hubby has a turtle that he rescued and this time of the year, he collects live food for the turtle to eat so that he stays up on his hunting skills.  I took this shot after the turtle had a nice full belly and was tired.  He let out a big yawn and stuck his tongue out at me!!

Foto Finish: Gardening

Today is the day for Foto Finish!! Today’s optional theme is definitely one that I’m fond of.  It’s gardening!!  This is also the last one until July as Barbara is putting this meme on hiatus while she’s away and enjoying summer.

I chose some buds of the flowers that are taking over my flower bed right now.  These are my favorite ones because of the colors.  I have white, pink, magenta, yellow, and a purple.  However, this one is a peach color with a pale yellow center.  I just love them!!

Macro Monday: Zinnia

This shot for Macro Monday and I Heart Macro is a fairly new one.  I recently planted some Zinnias and they had beautiful flowers on them.  They sure did attract the butterflies and bees right away too!!  However, this photo doesn’t have any visitors in it….it’s just simply the flower center.

Foto Finish: Pets

It’s once again time for Foto Finish!!  Today’s optional theme is definitely one that I can work with.  Barbara has suggested “pets” for our optional theme today.

I’ve once again chosen hubby’s turtle.  I guess he’s just the most photogenic of the pets!!  This time, the turtle is eating his dinner.  What’s on the menu??  A banana!!

World Bird Wednesday: Cardinal

I’m so excited as this is my first post for this meme!!  I’ve always wanted to join in WBW, but my timing just always seems to be off.  For my first post to this meme, I chose a bird that’s a very special visitor to our yard.

This is Mr. Cardinal.  He started visiting us last year with his wife.  About half way through the summer, she stopped coming and he came less often.  We often heard him calling for her, but for the remainder of the summer, she never came back.  I’m happy to say that this spring, Mr. Cardinal arrived singing a much prettier song.  And, he arrived with Mrs. Cardinal!!  We’re assuming that he found a new mate, as the other was just gone too long and something probably happened to her.

With that said, here’s our Mr. Cardinal…..

Macro Monday: Dandelion Seeds

This shot for Macro Monday and I Heart Macro is a brand new one!!  I was out walking the yard trying to find things to get up close and personal with.  I ended up with some good photos.  I love playing!!  For this week’s Macro Monday and I Heart Macro, I ended up choosing one of a dandelion that’s gone to seed.  While I was trying to photograph it, some of the seeds blew away.  I didn’t capture them, but I did get the partial head of the dandelion!!

Foto Finish: Animals

It’s once again time for Foto Finish!!  I’m happy that today’s theme is one that I can work with.  Always very glad that Barbara has the “optional” theme for us to work with because I always struggle to find the right photos so share.

Today’s photo is my hubby’s turtle.  This was taken last Spring before the grass turned green.  That’s not a problem this year with all the rain we’ve had!!  Anyway, when we’re outside, hubby generally brings the turtle out to stretch his legs and walk around our yard.

Foto Finish: Flowers

YAY!!  I get to participate in Foto Finish again today!!  I was away last weekend and unable to join in the fun.  I’m back though and just in time for this “optional theme”.

This photo was taken just before we “left” for Spring Break last week.  The dogwood tree in front of our house was in bloom.  It didn’t have nearly the flowers that it usually does, but I attribute that to our hot, dry summer last year.  In addition, we had a very warm winter too.
